First Trip to Michigan

On Thursday, October 8, the Wendells and I headed for Michigan. Sonny was a smooth operator at first, then the boredom set in. He was tired of being in his seat and he wanted to be held. He fussed a bit, especially at the end of the drive. We stopped in Ohio to stretch our legs, get a bite to eat, and fill up on fuel. Wendell bought an Ohio postcard for Sonny's scrapbook and I took several pictures of him with it.
We finally arrived at Wendell's parent's house around midnight, got settled, and fell asleep. Sonny slept in until 8 am which was nice. We joined Wendell's mom and grandma for breakfast. Grandma sure enjoyed meeting her great-grandson. I took numerous pictures of their interaction throughout the day. After breakfast, Wendell joined his father at his store and helped him for several hours. Sonny and I stayed with the grandmas. Grandma was feeling well and only took short catnaps throughout the day.
Friday evening, the Wendells and I met up with Wendell's brother and his family for pizza and volleyball. Wendell played several games while I visited with my sister-in-law, nieces, and a church lady. The children enjoyed playing with Sonny.
Saturday morning, Wendell's grandma wasn't feeling well so the Wendells and I made ourselves scarce. After visiting with mom and dad for a bit, we headed to town. We stopped at a friend's garage sale and bought several items, including a Gymboree and a baby sling. We ate lunch at the local Ponderosa...Wendell owes me a trip to Cops and Doughnuts...then visited his sister and brother and their families. We had a wonderful time visiting with his siblings and their families. The nieces had tons of fun playing with their cousin.
Wendell's sister and sister-in-law made supper and we all gathered at mom and dad's for a feast of chicken, potatoes, and salad. Grandma was feeling well enough to gather with us around the table. After food and fellowship, we took several four-generation pictures with the grandmas. It was nice to see a smile on grandma's face.
Before the Wendells and I left for the long drive home through the night, we all gathered around grandma for a hymn sing. It was so special to sing about heaven and what awaits us there. It was bittersweet though because we knew that grandma would soon be going to her heavenly reward. Saying goodbye to her was tough. We love you, grandma.

Picking up daddy and getting ready to head out to Grandma's house.

Not impressed with Ohio or the Ohio postcard.

Meeting great-grandma. She kept her eyes on him most of the day.

Not the greatest pic but I love it. Grandma and Sonny are checking each other out.

The lighting isn't the greatest but the pics turned out pretty good anyway. Four generations...now we have four generation pics with all three living grandmas. Oh the legacy.
